”There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. Some kind of high–;powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

Those things have Really strong Jaws we have Texas Longhorn beatles here and one made my sister bleed 1 time when it bit her. They are pretty big around here a couple of inches long.

I always have to get bit by whatever I find. It's part of the expierence :) For as long as I can remember I always used to asked my dad "does it bite hard?" that's right before you find me shrieking at 7 years old with a soft shell turtle hanging from my finger.

I was kinda surprised that beatles bite but i guess some are pretty tenacious and predatory even. I guess when a thousand foot giant picks you up to look at you you'd bite or do whatever you can to get away :)

Sometimes beetles can surprise me. Last week I was taking pics of Thanasmius formicarius. This is very small clerid beetle (~ 1 cm long) that hunts and kills bark beetles. I took it to my hand and it bite me! I though that it wasn't able to penetrate my skin... but I was wrong :)

I had many 'accidents' with wasps and true bugs. The worse was Notonecta glauca. My hand and arm hurt for 3 weeks (probably I have alergy for venom of this specie).

I didn't even know thos bit (the Notonecta glauca). Is there such a thing as a giant Notonecta glauca? I've seen small boatman beatles but 1 time i was playing in the ditch catching crayfish and I caught this huge 4 legged bug it had to have been 2 inches long scared me half to death it was extremely fast too and i've never seen anything like it since.

Yes there are giant water bugs like Lethocerus spp. which can be found in US. I think they can bite very seriously.
