Ok, I don't know what is more important on this picture - fungus or poor fly (which affects cattegory I should choose for it). Whatever... fungus parasites are very common but very hard to find. This is one of the examples how Entomophthorales (insect parasitic fungi) kills their preys.

oh wow, nice shot; fungus is soooooo creepy. I know back home there is the type that infects the flies and causes them to go all loopy and forget what is dangerous; you could pick one up with your fingers if you want... they also try to get as high as they can and they die there, waiting for the spores to be released. In the late summer if you didn't have screens on your windows they will gather on the tops of curtain rods and at the tops of doorframes...

We've met this type of fungus and even have some pictures (but less "artistic" than this one). We have friend who works on this group of fungi. There are so many species and many different attack and developement strategies that we can't even imagine.
